No matter what type of beer you gravitate toward, you’ll find something to love and a fun experience visiting the breweries and taprooms across the DMV.
We don’t have the time or pixels to create an exhaustive list of DMV breweries. But here are five of our favorites that should definitely be on your list of places to visit if you love trying awesome new beers and supporting hardworking local brewers.

Port City Brewing Company
Alexandria, VA
Located just outside of D.C., Port City Brewing Company is known for its award-winning beers, including its flagship Optimal Wit Belgian-style white ale and its Monumental IPA. The brewery also offers a variety of seasonal and special release beers, as well as a popular tastings, tours and events.

DC Brau Brewing Company
Washington, DC
DC Brau Brewing Company has become known for producing high-quality beers that showcase the diverse flavors and ingredients of the region. The brewery has a large taproom and outdoor beer garden, which are popular gathering spots for locals and visitors. DC Brau produces a variety of beers, including IPAs, stouts, and sours. Some of their most popular beers include The Corruption IPA, The Public Pale Ale, and The Citizen Belgian-Style Ale.

Union Craft Brewing
Baltimore, MD
Union Craft Brewing is known for its smooth-drinking beers that keep people coming back to try something new. The brewery produces a range of beers, including its popular Duckpin Pale Ale and Baltimore Pale Ale. In addition to their taproom, Union Craft also has a large outdoor beer garden and frequently hosts events such as live music performances, food trucks and more.

Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company
Lexington, VA
A bit farther from the metropolitan hub of the DMV, Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company is based in the Shenandoah Valley. It’s a perfect stop on a weekend mountain getaway. The award-winning brewery produces a range of beers that can be easily found throughout the region, including its popular Gold Leaf Lager, Vienna Lager and Eight-Point IPA. The Outpost Taproom & Kitchen offers an awesome visitor experience, amplified by gorgeous mountain views.

Heavy Seas Beer
Baltimore, MD
Heavy Seas Beer was founded in 1995 by Hugh Sisson, who is credited with helping to establish the craft beer movement in Maryland. The brewery is known for its popular beers like its flagship Loose Cannon IPA, Powder Monkey Pale Ale and Red Sky at Morning Red Ale. Heavy Seas’ taproom is a great spot to enjoy a delicious local beer, and you can also find one of the area’s best food trucks, cooking up delicious burgers and more to help complete your brewery experience.
